Meet Susie Bennett, this weeks author guest:
Susie's new book
After a year living on the streets, Jack returns home to his loving wife and son. But the memory of the magical land he discovered pulls on him and, in a moment of madness, he steps back through the door…
But this time it’s different.
This time he’s not transported to another place, but to another time…
Along with his old school pal, Joe, he enters a world of pirate lords, prowling panthers and terrifying ghosts. Starving and lost, Jack must battle through a crazy world where up is down and down is up, where trees can burst into life, all to find the most important treasure of all…
His way home.
Born in Stockton-on-Tees with Cerebral Palsy, Susan Bennett throughout her early life was constantly told that she wouldn’t be able to walk, talk properly, move properly, swim, hold a job down or live a‘normal’ life – “Whatever that is,” says Susan. As she grew, Susan needed to prove this was not the case. Not to herself you understand, because she always knew she would be able to do these things, but to those in the medical and educational fraternity and other doubters.
This book demonstrates Susan’s steely resolve to overcome all of life’s obstacles, some physical and some emotional and some quite devastating. The book reflects Susan’s feelings of cherishing what you have and not worrying about what you don’t have, all with a happy demeanour. One by one the ‘can’t do’s are ticked off as ‘done’.
Susan says: “If anyone gets a modicum of motivation from reading this book, then it has been worthwhile.”
